Instant Draft Grades (Most Recent Class)

  • 1.16: DE Larry English: Merriman is great but unreliable, pass rush is always a valuable asset in the draft. Grade: B-.
  • 3.78: OL Louis Vasquez: Wide-bodied guard, with excellent weight room strength, adds depth to Chargers' roster. Grade: C+.
  • 4.113: DT Vaughn Martin: Raw but rare athlete could have played south of the border in college. Grade: C+.
  • 4.133: OL Tyronne Green: Experienced but limited player could compete for a spot on the Chargers line. Grade: C-.
  • 4.134: RB Gartrell Johnson: Not fast-enough to be a great tailback (4.80), but could be a short-yardage specialist. Grade: C-.
  • 5.148: DB Brandon Hughes: Decent size & excellent speed. Will need to help on special teams. Grade: C+.
  • 6.189: DB Kevin Ellison: Poor 40 speed means he'll most likely move from safety to outside linebacker. Grade: C-.
  • 7.224: WR Demetrius Byrd: Injured in a recent car accident, it is questionable if Byrd will be ready for '09. Grade: C-.
